The EDGE Certification, which stands for Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies, is a system for certifying green buildings. This certification offers project managers a quantifiable approach to enhance their designs. To be eligible for EDGE Certification, buildings need to demonstrate a minimum of 20% savings in energy, water, and embodied energy in materials. The primary goals include decreasing carbon emissions from buildings and reducing operational expenses.
EDGE Certification consists of three tiers:
The EDGE Certification plays a crucial role in minimizing operational expenses and environmental footprint by investigating technical alternatives during the initial design phase. By assessing projected operational savings and diminished carbon emissions linked to the user’s choice of eco-friendly measures and data input, it establishes a persuasive business justification for constructing environmentally friendly buildings.
EDGE Certification is awarded upon achieving a minimum efficiency of 20% in three key areas: Energy, Water, and Materials. The certification utilizes a straightforward pass/fail approach to assess whether there has been a 20% reduction in operational energy, water consumption, and embodied energy in materials.
The process of obtaining EDGE Certification involves examining project documents and confirming compliance with EDGE standards during the design phase. To achieve EDGE Certification compliance, both design reviews and on-site inspections are necessary.
